I am a Person-Centred counsellor, which means that I work in a way to understand a client’s experience from their perspective. As a counsellor, I positively value the client as a person in all aspects of their humanity while aiming to be open and genuine. I believe that this is vital in helping the client feel accepted, and better able to understand their own feelings. I also believe that it can help the client to reconnect with their inner values and sense of self-worth, thus enabling them to find their own way to move forward and progress.
I am a member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere strictly to their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professionals. I understand the courage it takes to contact a counsellor, so I continuously strive to provide the best therapeutic experience for my clients.
Initial Consultation
Before we begin working together, we can have a free 30-minute initial consultation, either in person or online through Zoom. This gives me the opportunity to find out more about you, your background and the issues you are struggling with. We can also talk through the process of counselling, the counselling contract, and your expectations and goals. You can also ask any questions you may have before we decide if we are a good fit to work together.
Counselling Sessions
Rarely, in our busy lives do we get time to focus on ourselves and the issues that are troubling us. Counselling provides you with the time and space to explore your problems in detail with me, so you can understand the root cause of your problems and reach a place of greater self-awareness. I am not here to fix you, rather to listen intently, with warm empathy, and to offer you a new perspective on your difficulties so you can begin to develop ways to better manage your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Every counselling session is like a problem solving session, giving us the opportunity to work through your struggles so you can get closer to achieving your goals.
It's tough, but we all go through grief, loss, or bereavement at some point in our lives. Sometimes, though, it can hit you so hard that it's hard to get back up again. If you're feeling like that and struggling to move on, it might be time to seek some professional help. That's where I come in - through counselling and psychotherapy, I can guide you through your feelings, help you cope, and show you how to integrate the loss into your life in a healthy way. It's not about forgetting or minimising the pain, but rather about finding a way to move forward and live your life to the fullest.
Trauma can take many forms, whether it's experiencing a traumatic event, emotional or physical abuse, neglect, or witnessing abuse or addiction in those around us. And unfortunately, the impact of that trauma can stick with us well into adulthood. It can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, and struggling to form positive relationships, and can even lead to panic attacks or eating disorders. Sometimes, the weight of those experiences can make us feel like we can't share them with anyone, adding to the feelings of guilt and shame. But I'm here to help. Through psychotherapy, we can work together to get to the root of the problem and help you reconcile the feelings that you've kept buried deep inside. It's not always easy, but healing is possible, and I'll be here to support you every step of the way.
Anxiety is a real struggle that can take many different forms, and it's an incredibly heavy burden to bear. It can make you feel exhausted, on edge, and completely overwhelmed, and it can even lead to catastrophising and panic attacks. The worst part is that it can affect every aspect of your life, including your health and overall wellbeing. But there is hope. Through counselling, we can work together to unravel your anxieties and help you better understand the underlying trauma that you may be holding inside. By doing so, we can find healthy ways for you to express those unconscious feelings, and ultimately help you reclaim control over your life.
